How to Prevent Barn Doors from Slamming
To prevent a barn door from slamming closed, you need to use soft close hardware. This specially designed technology slows the barn door down as it reaches the end of the rail, making the door both quiet and safe.
Without soft close technology, a barn door will make a thud when it hits the end of the rail. The door could also bounce back open, which can cause damage and potentially be a safety hazard.
Soft close hardware starts slowing down the door 3 inches from the end, making sure it will shut quietly. Since the door slows down and comes to a gradual stop, there’s also less of a chance fingers could get caught. If your barn door ends at a wall, the soft-close technology will also provide protection, helping to ensure the door won’t cause any damage to your home.
Almost all of our hardware includes soft-close technology and our step-by-step installation instructions ensure that you can properly—and safely—install it.
Please note, we also require all customers to choose a bottom guide when purchasing a barn door from Viba Barn Doors & Hardware to prevent the door from swinging out. The standard guide included is invisible but it is best for an experienced carpenter or handyperson because you will need to route a channel on the bottom of the barn door with a slotting bit. If you’re not comfortable with this method, we also offer an EZ install bottom guide.
Make sure to keep your barn door quiet and safe by using soft close technology and a bottom guide.
