Is It Difficult To Install A Barn Door?
We often get asked, is it easy to install a Viba Sliding Barn Door? Not only is it easy, but we provide you with step-by-step instructions with your purchase on how to do it!
Before You Start
It’s important to make sure the doorway you are installing your barn door on has adequate structural support. The wall-mounted door hardware must be attached to a structural blocking or head casing. Check out our instructions on how to prepare your walls for hardware if you need for detailed instructions.
Step 1: The Barn Door Guide
If you’re using a standard floor-mounted guide, you will need to prep the door for the guide. We provide you with instructions to go along with this hardware choice, so there is no need to worry. The standard guide and EZ guide will both keep your door from swinging out if accidentally pushed on. All you need to do is choose which option best suits your needs.
Step 2: The Soft Close Hardware
When you start the process of installing a barn door, you’ll begin with our revolutionary soft close hardware. Make sure the “catch” on the soft close device is facing the floor. Then you will loosen the attachment bolts that hold the mechanism on the rail and push down to ensure so the bottom of the device is level with the bottom of the rail, before retightening the bolts.
Step 3: The Rail
Position the rail on top of the wood blocking, and check to make sure it is level. Then mark the hole locations with a pencil and drill pilot holes into the wood blocking. Using the wall screws and spacers provided, mount the rail. After that, install the door stopper at the end of the track to prevent roll-off.
Step 4: Setting The Soft Close Hardware
During this step, you get to decide where you want your barn door to stop. Simply place the door on the rail, move it to the left, find the location where you want the door to stop, and mark the holes for the actuator. Repeat the same process for the right-hand side, and properly attach the actuators; it really is that easy.
Step 5: Final Touches
At this point, you’re almost done installing the barn door. Just open and close your door to ensure everything is closing softly, and attach the anti-jump blocks on top of the door. Then install the standard bottom guide or EZ bottom guide, and you’re all done.
