Turn an Antique Door into a Sliding Door
Many of the builder-grade doors installed in homes have no character and don’t really add to the overall aesthetic of the home. However, you can add some personality back into your home by incorporating an antique door.
Did you know that you can turn almost any door, including vintage or antique doors, into a sliding barn door? Turn a stained glass door into a sliding entrance to your study, or use that rescued craftsman door you’ve been saving to close off your kitchen. With the right hardware, the possibilities are endless!
Antique Door Sizing
A sliding barn door must overlap the opening by 4” in size. Unfortunately, that means many antique doors may not work with standard home door openings. You can either use an antique door on a smaller opening (like for a pantry) or seek out oversized antique doors.
Another way to incorporate slim antique doors into your home is to use two in one space. This is ideal when you have an opening that is just a little wider than average, as two antique doors may be the perfect size.
